The Modrac Dam was built in 1964 on the Spreča River. It is a multi-arch dam consisting of nine buttresses, ten arches and two gravity supports. According to its technical characteristics and the volume of the reservoir, it belongs to high dams, and thus is subject to mandatory technical monitoring. The Modrac reservoir is formed by two rivers: Spreča and Turija with their tributaries. In addition to its original purpose, the Modrac reservoir has the purpose of supplying the population with drinking water.
In addition to the above, the purposes of the Modrac reservoir are:
- provision of the minimum water management of the river Spreča for the dilution of wastewater downstream of the dam profile,
- flood protection downstream of the dam,
- electricity production at MHE “Modrac”,
- development of tourism, recreation and water sports with the restrictions arising from the priority purpose.
The goal of the technical inspection of the dam was to determine the static operation of the dam from the relevant indicators of monitoring the construction of the facility and the results of the inspection, and further determine the level of safety of individual structural parts and the dam facility as a whole. In the project, the dam was observed through two series by physical, geodetic and visual observation methods.
